What to Do Now

July 28, 2020

In the last few days the area has received some needed rainfall and the crop is looking great.  Before long it will be time to harvest the crop and start in on next years plan.  Now is a good time to be checking on the crop to see what field will need harvested first.  When checking on corn we need to look at hybrids to see what variety will mature first.  Check in with your agronomist to figure out what hybrids need to be taken out of the field first and what hybrids can wait until the end.

It is also a good time to be walking bean fields to scout for insect problems.  It is not too late to apply fungicide and sometimes adding in an insecticide can be beneficial.  From what I have seen the growers that added an insecticide in with their fungicide and chemicals are happy they did.

Now is also the time to see how the chemicals that were applied did their job.  I have seen mostly clean fields but there are some issues.  I have noticed that the fields that added in a second residual are keeping the water hemp down a lot better then the fields that did not have a residual applied.

If you have some questions or some issues with some things that you are seeing in your fields, give your SFG agronomist a call and we will be happy to come out and take a look.
