Micronutrients in Hay Fertilization

February has treated us well, and there is already some field work happening as I write this. It will not be long before we are turning our attention to getting hayfields and pastures ready for the season.
We talk a lot about making sure pH, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium levels are where they need to be, and that foundation is critical. But the next level of production often comes from paying attention to micronutrients.
Micronutrients are frequently overlooked in hay fertility programs, yet they can play an important role. Deficiencies in sulfur, boron, and other micronutrients may not limit production as dramatically as low potash, but they can influence forage quality and overall stand health, especially in heavier alfalfa mixes.
At SFG, we offer products that can be blended with your fertilizer program to address micronutrient deficiencies. If you have questions or would like to review your fertility plan, reach out to your local SFG agronomist and start the conversation now. Getting ahead of it today will pay off when the mower starts rolling.
