Watch for Insects in Soybeans

June 30, 2020

Post herbicide applications are underway in my area and one thing to look for while making plans for spraying beans is insect pressure. Defoliation from insects can cause yield loss if let go too long untreated. The past week or two I have looked at quite a few fields with bean leaf beetle feeding. Although not severe enough to treat yet this is something that we want to take note of and make sure we don’t let that get away from us. Adding an insecticide to a herbicide load is generally pretty cheap to do and provides a nice ROI on that investment if there is insect feeding present.  Overall in my area crops are looking very good so with current market conditions how they are we  don’t want any of our yield potential to slip away from us. If you are noticing any feeding in your fields or would like to discuss adding an insecticide to your post chemical program give your local SFG agronomist a call.
