In-Season Nitrogen Application

Corn is well underway hitting the nitrogen and getting out of the “ugly duckling” stage. The growing point is above ground now and we are getting close to the rapid growth stage. This is during V8-VT and where the daily intake of nitrogen is highest. During this stage it’s a race to see how many heat units we can accumulate and how soon we can get to tassel. Also right before the rapid growth stage is a great time to spread in season nitrogen. This year SFG is offering a product called Amidas. This nitrogen product also contains sulfur and helps to keep the sulfur to nitrogen ratio in check. Amidas is a polymer coated slow release nitrogen that provides in season needs in a crop safe available form.
