Planning Summer Fungicide Applications
As we head into the summer growing season, it's time to start planning fungicide applications to protect yield and maximize crop health. Most corn hybrids have a Response to Fungicide (RTF) score, and it’s crucial to keep track of which hybrids are planted in each field.
For hybrids with high RTF scores, make sure they’re prioritized for treatment with a quality fungicide to optimize your return on investment. Fields planted with moderate to low RTF hybrids should be closely scouted throughout the summer. Fungicide decisions for these fields should be based on disease presence and pressure observed in the field.
Keep in mind that if we see early onset of tar spot, it could shift our entire fungicide strategy. A timely application of a high-quality fungicide will be necessary to contain the disease and protect yield potential.
Soybeans: A More Predictable ROI
Planning fungicide applications for soybeans tends to be more straightforward. Consistent results from past trials have shown that soybean fungicide treatments—especially when combined with an insecticide—almost always deliver a strong return on investment. The synergistic effect of combining the two can lead to healthier plants and higher yields, giving you a competitive edge.
Product Availability & Planning
We currently have a good supply of fungicides, but product demand can shift quickly. Lock in your products now to secure your preferred options and avoid any in-season shortages.
Talk to your local SFG agronomist to finalize your summer application plans. While applying fungicide, consider the opportunity to add foliar nitrogen to corn or micronutrients to either crop—a small step that can make a big impact.
Let’s get ahead of disease pressure this season and set your crops up for success.
