Spring Application Planning

Mar 02, 2026

February flew by, and now it's March. According to the weatherman, it looks to be a cold, wet start to the month. It may be stay-inside weather next week, which would be a good time to visit with your SFG agronomist to make sure everything is in place for this spring’s work.

Going over application maps to ensure they are correct does not take long and can save some confusion when it’s time to apply product to a field. Also, take the time to review what chemicals will be applied to each field to make sure they are compatible with the hybrid that will be planted. There seems to be more non-GMO corn planted every year, and your agronomist needs to be aware if you are planning on planting some.

During your visit, make sure to go over your hybrids with your agronomist to confirm that the right number is getting planted in the right field at the right population. Planting a racehorse number on a workhorse field will not yield the results you are looking for.

It is hard to pencil out a profit with the markets the way they are, so doing the little things right can make a big difference. Taking some time now to iron out the details can save a lot of headaches once it is time to get back in the field, and that time will be here before we know it.
