2024 Corn Reflections

Oct 22, 2024

The 2024 harvest is well underway. Corn and many soybeans have yielded exceptionally well. I have seen many fields with record high yields. I have reflected on what advantage those fields had as an advantage this year.

The corn that performed very well had distinct agronomy inputs. All fields had two-pass chemical programs with a good residual, good fungicide applied at around tassel time, 30+ pounds of sulfur, high nitrogen rates from more than one form of nitrogen, a good maintenance fertilizer program of P/K, and micro-nutrients such as Zinc and Boron.

All of these are agronomy practices that we know will add yield to a crop. Combined with timely rainfall, these practices will greatly increase your yield. Talk to your local SFG agronomist about planning for next year’s crop inputs.
