Smith Fertilizer & Grain

The SFG Difference

At Smith Fertilizer & Grain, our mission is clear: to provide outstanding service and top-quality products at competitive prices—while helping our customers thrive. We continually invest in innovation and technology, but our foundation remains the same: strong, lasting relationships with our customers, employees, and suppliers.

At SFG, success isn’t just measured in tons, gallons, or bushels. It’s measured by the strength and profitability of the producers we serve. We believe that equipment and facilities only matter when they deliver real, tangible value. That’s why we begin with what matters most—listening. Understanding your operation and goals is where true service starts.

As agriculture continues to evolve, so do we. SFG is positioned to meet the demands of a changing industry, while staying true to our roots. We’re committed to delivering personal, respectful, and reliable service—the kind that never goes out of style.

Our Story

Smith Fertilizer and Grain began in 1972, founded by Lyman and Jeanne Smith and their sons, John and Max. Fueled by hard work, determination, and a vision to deliver better customer service, the Smith family laid the foundation for what would become a trusted name in agriculture.

In 1992, the addition of the Pleasantville facility marked a major milestone, effectively doubling SFG’s size. Eight years later, we entered the deicing market—a move that has since evolved into a thriving segment of our business. Today, with several distribution sites across North America, Pleasantville serves as the central hub for our deicing and dust control operations.

Our growth continued with the acquisition of the Albia location in 2006, followed by Centerville in 2007, strengthening our reach and capabilities.

In 2019, SFG expanded once more to better serve our customers and communities, adding new locations in Milo, Melcher-Dallas, Columbia, and Knoxville. With dedication and countless hours of hard work, we quickly modernized and upgraded these facilities to meet the needs of today’s producers.
