Spring Soil Sampling
Feb 27, 2025

After spending a week in the deep freeze, our recent forecast has been much better. We were fortunate to miss some of the recent snowfall, so hopefully we can warm up and start to dry up. As this happens, it is a good time to look at our soil samples and see if there was something that didn’t get sampled last fall. Whether it be GPS, grid, or conventional samples we still have time to pull samples for and spring fertility plans.
Sampling ground that is going to be seeded down is important, as alfalfa and forage legumes don’t like soil that is too acidic. If we know this before seeding, it is easy to fix this with pel or ag lime.
If you have fields that weren’t sampled last fall that you would like to get on the list before planting time, contact your local SFG agronomist. We are happy to help!
