2023 has come and gone and many are starting to get their chemical orders in for the 2024 crop. Even with less-than-normal rainfall, last year’s chemical programs worked very well. We learned many things in 2023 that we can take into 2024.

First, it’s always easier to keep a field clean when you start clean. Overlapping residuals is a must when dealing with weed control. For beans, use a full rate up front followed by a second residual 25 to 30 days after. As for corn, many have gone away from the one pass program since water hemp and marestail are getting harder to control. It is also important to get the second pass of chemical on the corn before the plant gets too tall. Tall stalks can block the chemical from contacting the weeds below.
