Don't Skip Out on Second Passes
Jan 06, 2025
It was a short but productive anhydrous season. We got a lot of work done in a little amount of time and it looks like it is over until this coming spring. With this down time, it is time to start thinking about chemical needs for the 2025 crop.
A two-pass program on beans is the only safe option. Some have tried to clean-till a field and spray it later, but I have yet to see that work. Start with a good foundation and come back 25 to 30 days later with a residual herbicide. If weeds start popping up before that window, spray the field sooner. Always have an over lapping residual on the second pass. This will keep the weeds down until your canopy can take over.
It is also best to use a two-pass program on your corn fields. I have yet to see a two-pass program fail in corn. I have seen a few successes with clean-till fields and spraying, but this success is not guaranteed. When it comes down to price, the small cost of a two-pass program is a small price to pay for a clean field.
It is always easier to keep a field clean than it is to clean a field up. SFG offers a wide variety of chemical and scouting programs to help you with your weed control for the 2025 season. Give your SFG agronomist a call today and schedule your 2025 weed control plans!
