Switching Weed Chemistries

May 05, 2025

Spring of 2025 has yet again introduced a new adverse weather pattern. We started out cool and dry this year, with more days of spring wind than I can recall in many years. Lately it has also had many rainfall events that have not amounted to a lot of rain, but many days of greasy fields.

The weather has made it a challenge to keep ahead of planting. Many acres of corn and soybeans have emerged where the wind prevented some pre-emerge spraying. There are many chemical options available to spray these acres with effective residual activity.

When switching chemistry, it is not much different than selecting a good preemergent program. There are two main things we need to look at.

First, is there a product that will take care of all weeds that have emerged? Second, is there a product in the tank that will provide residual activity until post-emerge application? If we can say yes to these two questions, we should still have our weed problems shored up for the season.
